Tired of the same old “New Year, new you” resolutions? What if you could change the cliché of wanting to lose 20 kilograms and having a six-pack to simply being happy?
New Year’s resolutions are often rooted in the constant comparison to everyone else’s “picture perfect” moments. Here’s a thought: Instead of thinking about things you need to change to “fix” yourself, why not focus on being the best version of you? (not the “fixed” version, simply the best version).
Think about it, if you bought a race horse to win a lot of races (and, of course, to make some money!), how would you treat that horse? You’d feed it well and you definitely wouldn’t run it into the ground. You’ll make sure that it gets enough exercise and sleep … you’d make sure it’s happy. That’s it! If you’re thinking of making a fresh start in 2020, that is exactly where you should start.
By focusing on one doable lifestyle tweak every month you will not only have made 12 beneficial adjustments by 31 December, but will have also given yourself the opportunity to turn each of those adjustments into a lasting habit.
No matter how silly New Year’s resolutions may seem, January really is the time for a do-over. 365 days with 365 new chances … pretty awesome, right?
Happy 2020 everyone!
